David Dice
Title: Assistant Chief of Operations C Shift
Phone: 318-673-6662

The Shreveport Fire Department’s Operations Division is divided into three shifts. Assistant Chief David Dice leads C Shift. The Assistant Chief has responsibility for the safe and efficient delivery of fire protection and emergency medical services for the entire city of Shreveport. He is supported by a staff of 168 men and women who, under his supervision, direction, and control, carry out their individual responsibilities.

Assistant Chief Dice has committed his entire work life to the Shreveport Fire Department. He joined the Department in April 1974, following his graduation from Woodlawn High School in 1973.

He is an excellent example of someone who has steadily risen through the ranks. Having begun as a firefighter, he came up through the ranks to Engineer, then to Captain, and on to Battalion Chief before being promoted to Assistant Chief in 2007.

Dice has taken every opportunity to be in touch with the latest in advances that will help him better fulfill the mission and goals of the Department. He has received a number of Fire Service-related certifications over the course of his career. They include training in Vehicle Extrication and Rescue at the LSU Fire and Emergency Training Institute in Baton Rouge and Industrial Fire Protection training at Texas Training School, Texas A&M University System, College Station, Texas. More recent training in response to 21st Century concerns includes participating in Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings training at the New Mexico Technical School, Socorro, New Mexico (2004), Weapons of Mass Destruction Response training at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Anniston, Alabama (2004), and Financial Management in the Fire Service training at the National Fire Academy, Emittsburg, Maryland (2007).

A hallmark of Assistant Chief Dice’s career has been his community-minded approach to his work. Whether on duty or not, he is always responsive to the needs of all firefighters, active or retired, and of the people of the community he and his Department serve. Whether it is visiting a firefighter in the hospital, volunteering for duty in Plaquemines Parish after Hurricane Katrina, or volunteering at Department and community fundraisers, he is always there to help whenever and wherever he is needed.

His community involvement includes being a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge, and the International Association of Fire Chiefs.

Assistant Chief Dice has three grown sons: Nick, David, and Josh.
