The City of Shreveport’s Public Assembly and Recreation (SPAR) department announces upcoming events to honor and celebrate Black History Month:

• Thursday, February 11, at 11 AM, SPAR Therapeutic Recreation at Princess Park Community Center (931 Baker) is hosting their Annual Black History Program, “Making History by Impacting Lives”. For more information, contact SPAR Therapeutic Recreation at 318-673-7815.
• Friday, February 12, at 10:30 AM, Hattie Perry Community Center (4300 Ledbetter) is hosting a Black History Program, “I’m Proud in Who I am”. The guest speaker is Ms. Vicky Marshall. For more information, contact Hattie Perry Community Center at 318-673-7810.
• Thursday, February 18, at 10 AM, A. B. Palmer Community Center (547 E. 79th) is hosting a Black History Program, “Remembering History in Music & Song”. For more information, contact A. B. Palmer Community Center at 318-673-5336.
• Thursday, February 18, at 11 AM, Bilberry Community Center (1902 Alabama) is hosting a Black History Program. For more information, contact Bilberry Park Community Center at 318-673-5345.
• Thursday, February 18, at 11:30 AM, Sunset Acres Community Center (6700 Quilen Street) is hosting a Black History Program, “Dream with a Vision but Live with a Purpose”. The guest speaker is Ms. Sandra L. Ratliff. For more information, contact Sunset Acres Community Center at 318-673-7825.
• Friday, February 19, at 10 AM, Airport Park Community Center (6500 Kennedy) is hosting a Black History Program, “Hallowed Ground Sites of African Memory”. For more information, contact Airport Park Community Center at 318-673-7803.
• Friday, February 19, at 11 AM, Querbes Park Community Center (3500 Beverly) is hosting a Black History Program. The guest speaker is Councilman Willie Bradford. For more information, contact Querbes Park Community Center at 318-673-7816.
• Friday, February 19, at 3:30 PM, Valencia Park Community Center (1800 Viking) is hosting Community Bingo in honor of Black History. For more information, contact Valencia Park Community Center at 318-673-6433.
• Thursday, February 25, at 10 AM, David Raines Community Center (2920 Round Grove) is hosting a Black History Program, “Past, Present & Future”. The guest speaker is Pastor Marcus George. For more information, contact David Raines Community Center at 318-673-5342.
• Thursday, February 25, at 10:30 AM, Hollywood Heights Community Center (4815 McDaniel) is hosting a Black History Program, “A Century of Black Life, History & Culture”. The guest speaker is Caddo Parish School Board Superintendent Dr. Lamar Goree. For more information, contact Hollywood Heights Community Center at 318-673-7811.
• Thursday, February 25, at 11 AM, Lakeside Community Center (2100 Milam) is hosting a Black History Program, “Remembering our Past, Focusing on our Future”. For more information, contact Lakeside Community Center at 318-673-7812.

SPAR is also hosting a canned food drive benefiting the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana. Items may be dropped off at any SPAR Community Center through February 29th.
