Street Repairs
The most familiar refrain from Shreveport residents to City officials in recent years has been simple and direct: ``When are you guys going to do something about our streets?’’
Well, the answer from Mayor Cedric Glover and his administration is equally direct: ``We want to `Fix Shreveport’s Streets Now!’’
The City has developed an ambitious and aggressive plan to rebuild and repair miles and miles of deteriorating streets and sidewalks. Once approved and implemented, the operation would greatly reduce the backlog of roadwork requiring the most immediate attention and touch needed areas citywide.
By leveraging and dedicating the revenue generated from increasing the AEP/SWEPCO franchise fee from 2 percent to 5 percent, the City will be able to secure up to $94 million in revenue bonds to do new capital street construction and repair. As a result, the City would have an unprecedented opportunity to ``Fix Shreveport’s Streets Now!’’
