Today Mayor Cedric B. Glover announced the expansion of the local production facility for Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories. Joining the Mayor at the announcement will be Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and Amit Patel who serves as Senior Vice President and Head of North American Generics at Dr. Reddy’s. The expansion will utilize the existing footprint of 310,000 square feet and create 73 new jobs at the site, while maintaining 161 existing positions. The total capital investment for the expansion is $16.5 million which is expected to generate 184 indirect jobs during the construction phases. “I’m thrilled to stand with the Governor and Mr. Patel today and glad to see another prime example of our collective efforts paying off,” said the Mayor. “During a trip to San Diego in 2008, I met with Dr. Reddy’s CEO, G.V. Prasad, while attending the Bio Conference and was able to tout the benefits of doing business in Shreveport and discuss their operations here. This meeting and others like it can be critical to recruiting businesses and expansion projects for our area. I want to continue to find opportunities to talk one-on-one and make personal connections with industry leaders.” The Mayor continued: “Today’s expansion demonstrates a few things. First, it reminds us once again that our economy here in Northwest Louisiana and Shreveport-Bossier is faring well despite national trends, which is a testament to our workers and our local business leaders. Second, it just goes to show how important it is for me and other representatives of Shreveport to travel, to reach out, to build relationships and make connections. To bring home the bacon, first you have to go to the store. Opportunities are not always going to come find us, so it is important that we continue to go find them. Finally, it shows once again the power of partnerships. I thank Jack Sharp and his visionary team at the Biomedical Research Foundation who helped make this expansion a reality and with whom we enjoy a wonderful, collaborative relationship in economic development. Kurt Foreman and the NLEP team also deserve recognition for another job well done.” | ### |
