Today, Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover, a presenter at the 56th Annual Keep America Beautiful National Conference in Washington D.C., led one of the conference’s key sessions entitled, “Who’s on Your Side: Building Relations with Elected Officials.” | Designed to give elected officials the opportunity to share and showcase how they have formed meaningful and successful partnerships with their local affiliates and communities, according to KAB director Cecile Carson, Mayor Glover’s attendance was imperative. | “After hearing Mayor Glover at the Keep Louisiana Beautiful State Conference in Shreveport and seeing first-hand the overwhelming success of Curbside Recycling, Operation T.B.O.N.E. (Taking Back Our Neighborhoods Everyday), and the extremely successful and committed partnerships between Shreveport Police, Property Standards, City Operational Services, Shreveport Green and neighborhood associations, I immediately invited him to share his success with the hundreds of community leaders that would attend our national conference.” | “It was indeed an honor to lead what I feel is a very important public discussion about on how city and elected officials can better connect and partner for the greater good of our communities in terms of creating cleaner, safer, more productive and cohesive cities,” said Glover. “If Shreveport can be a model for cities across the country, I gladly accept any opportunity to share our story of hard work, commitment, vision and growth.” | A key component of Mayor Glover’s Let’s Go Green Initiative, Operation T.B.O.N.E. has successfully decreased Shreveport’s crime rate to a 31 year low and “Just Curb It” curbside recycling, a partnership with Shreveport Green and Pratt Industries, is currently charting close to 1,000 tons of waste per month. | Keep America Beautiful, provides communities with a blueprint for creating successful public and private partnerships and engages more than 2.5 million volunteers annually to cleanup, beautify and improve community spaces. | Throughout the national KAB network of over 550 affiliated community organizations, they are cleaning up neighborhoods, providing environmental education in schools, improving public spaces and empowering individuals to take responsibility for improving their communities. |
