Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover announces the retirement of the City’s Director of Finance, Elizabeth “Liz” Washington effective December 31, 2008.

Mrs. Washington is a twenty-nine year employee who came onboard in August of 1979 as an Accountant for the City’s Finance Department. In1985 she was elevated to the job of Director of Accounting and promoted to Director of Finance in June of 1993.

“I am extremely grateful for the awesome opportunity to serve the City and the citizens of Shreveport,” says Washington. “This has truly been a rewarding experience.”

“On behalf of the Shreveport family, I’d like to thank Liz for twenty-nine years of dedicated, effective and efficient leadership in the area of finance,” says Mayor Glover. “We will miss her skilled guidance and expertise and wish her the best as she looks forward to a well deserved retirement.”

During her tenure with the City of Shreveport Elizabeth Washington served as a member of the Board of Directors for the United Way of Northwest Louisiana. She also worked to organize and is a founding/charter member of the Louisiana Government Finance Officers Association where she served on the Executive Board and lead the organization as President of the Louisiana GFOA from 1990-1991.

The Finance Department of the City of Shreveport supports all City departments by providing centralized accounting, purchasing, data processing, records management, revenue collection and risk management functions. The department also manages the City’s short-term cash management portfolio and provides administration for three pension funds.
