Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover has called a news conference for Thursday July 3, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the Mayor’s large conference room to announce Shreveport’s new Fire Chief.

The Mayor’s decision comes after personal interviews with each of the twenty-six applicants. “All twenty-six are highly qualified individuals. Twenty-six were interviewed and five remain in contention,” says Mayor Glover.

Louis Johnson

Russell Moon

The five are from the ranks of the Shreveport Fire Department. They were interviewed for a second time on Tuesday July 1, 2008. In the process, Mayor Glover sought and received input from the Local #514, Firefighters Union. Union officers commend Mayor Glover, saying that was a first. The finalists also met with the City’s Chief Administrative Officer Tom Dark.

Thirty-two persons applied. Twenty-seven took the Civil Service Examination. Twenty-seven passed. Firefighter Boyce Smith withdrew.
