| Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover called a News Conference for Tuesday July 1, 2008 at 3:00 PM on the second floor of Government Plaza in the Mayor’s Large Conference Room. | Standing with children, adults, educators and representatives of various organizations that provide quality child care and child activities in our community, Mayor Glover read a proclamation that designated July 1, 2008 as “Child Care Providers Day” in the City of Shreveport. | “It’s important that as a City we take the time to say Thank You and make this a special day of honor and recognition, for those who through their work as child care providers go the extra mile and give so much more to enrich the lives of our children,” says Mayor Glover. | Mayor Glover was inspired to call for this special day of recognition by eleven year old Neil Ferdinand Nathan, Louisiana’s 2008 Elementary Student of the Year. Neil wrote a letter to Mayor Glover and met with him to express his deep admiration for his “Nana” Mrs. Tina Davis who has provided child care for his family for thirteen years. | “Because of the love and care she gives to me and my brother and for all of the things she does to help my parents, I wanted to thank her and all of the other child care providers with their own day,” says Nathan. | The new 6th grader at Caddo Middle Magnet brought gift certificates for dinner at a local restaurant to give to Mrs. Tina Davis and others. | “With Mayor Glover’s help, I’d like for this to be an annual event.” |
