June 11, 2008 - FORT WORTH, TEXAS JOINS MAYOR GLOVER AND STATE OFFICIALS FOR UPCOMING INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS

Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover announces that Mrs. Tolli Thomas, President of the Wedgwood Square Neighborhood Association in Fort Worth, Texas www.wedgwoodsquare.org will be among the panelists at his upcoming Public Information Meetings about the Haynesville Shale and natural gas drilling.

Thomas, a stay at home Mom of three has an informative, first-hand account of how after being vigorously pursued by oil and gas companies, residents in her community came together and organized a very active and successful neighborhood association.

The initial goal was to educate property owners about the Barnett Shale which currently has over 6,000 gas wells, 580 which are active within the City of Fort Worth, but the scope has grown to include an interactive website, legal services, gas drilling basics and an extensive knowledge of city and state ordinances.

“I know what property owners in Shreveport, East Texas, Caddo Parish and the surrounding areas are going through and I’m pleased to share what I’ve learned so that others will have the information they need to make the right decisions,” says Thomas.

Thomas will join Assistant Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources Marjorie McKeithen, State Commissioner of Conservation Jim Welsh, Assistant City Attorney John Frazier, Capital One Oil and Gas Administrator Tom Kelley and others to provide a solid understanding of the Haynesville Shale.

Mayor Glover’s Public Information Meetings are set for Thursday June 12th from 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM and Saturday June 21st from 10:00 AM -12:30 PM at the Shreveport Convention Center.

“After visiting Fort Worth, Texas where the Barnett Shale has been in production for more than 10 years and hearing the pros and cons from city officials and property owners, it’s important that we provide an arena to communicate and disseminate valuable information on how residents can be knowledgeable and protect themselves from companies, some who take advantage of the fact that most people have little or no experience in mineral leasing,” says Mayor Glover.

Designed as “Haynesville Shale 101”, those attending will be provided handouts with information to help them understand the terminology associated with the Haynesville Shale and general issues related to gas drilling, mineral leases, signing bonuses and royalties.

After the panel’s presentation, there will be an open question and

answer period. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to talk one-on-one with the Mayor and panel guests after the meeting.

SPAR will provide fun activities for children (ages 4 – 12) while their parents attend the meeting.

“I want to give everyone, parents, guardians and families every opportunity to attend the meetings. The Shreveport Convention Center is easily accessible, we’ll waive the parking fee in the garage and parents won’t have to worry about finding child care.”
