With great pride Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover on May 27, 2008 at 3:00 pm at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, will introduce the young men and women selected for the Mayor’s highly competitive Summer Internship Program. Initiated last summer by Mayor Glover, students are given the remarkable opportunity to serve as summer interns in various City departments, based on their major field of study. | The Class of 2008 is made up of nine outstanding students from Brown University, Tulane University, Grambling State University, Centenary College, Northwestern State University, Southern University, LSU-Shreveport and LSU Health Sciences Center. They are: | - Brandi Andrews – Centenary College | - Krystle Cato – Grambling State University | - Sherika Clay – LSU-Shreveport | - Stuart Crichton – Centenary College | - Maeghan Davis – LSU Health Sciences Center | - Stanisha Fowler – Northwestern State University | - James Holt – Southern University | - Emily Mourad – Tulane University | - Angela Thomas – Brown University | The Mayor’s Summer Internship Program (MSIP) will run May 27, 2008 to June 27, 2008 for a total of five weeks. This is a paid internship, requiring a commitment of 35 hours per week, 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday and16 hours of community service. Students will be required to submit weekly reports documenting their progress and goals. | Many of the innovative ideas, expertise and projects initiated by the Inaugural M.S.I.P. Class of 2007 proved extremely successful saving the City as much as $10,000. “I am extremely proud of these young people and excited to see how their fresh approach and progressive ideas can move us closer to becoming The Next Great City of the South,” says Mayor Glover. |
