Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover takes great pride in announcing for the second year, his 2008 Summer Youth Employment Program. | The largest program of its kind funded solely by the City of Shreveport from City sales taxes, Mayor Glover’s Summer Jobs Program is open to teenagers and young people between the ages of 16 to 21 years old. They will primarily be placed in jobs with City agencies and non-profit organizations and will be administered by the City’s Department of Community Development. |
| “This is one tangible way that we as a City can invest in the growth and development of our young people today and prepare them for the world-of-work in the future,” says Mayor Glover. “I am excited to make these jobs available.” | Beginning Monday April 21, 2008 Shreveport’s young job seekers can pick up applications at all SPAR recreational centers within the City. They will need a copy of their birth certificate, Social Security Card, a photo ID and a utility bill from their primary residence (to show proof of residence within the City). | Applicants will be selected for interviews and given job assignments May 12 - 23, with their first day of work set for June 2, 2008. They will be allowed to work 25 hours per week for 8 weeks, ending July 25, 2008. The pay for Mayor Glover’s 2008 Summer Jobs Program is $7.00 per hour. In 2007, 260 teenagers and young people were given jobs. This year’s projection is 275 to 300 jobs! | NEWS CONFERENCE | MONDAY APRIL 21, 2008 | 12 NOON | MAYOR’S LARGE CONFERENCE ROOM | SECOND FLOOR, GOVERNMENT PLAZA |
