The City of Shreveport/Department of Operational Services will be conducting construction activities near the T. L. Amiss Water Purification plant on Sunday, April 20, 2008. This work will include the instillation of new water isolation valves to better facilitate future operations and renovations at the Plant. These valves will allow the City to work on processes and piping at the Plant while minimizing disruptions to the citizens of Shreveport and is a direct result of the incident at the Plant on January 10, 2008.

Work will be conducted on Sunday when many major water users are shut down and water demands are low. T. L. Amiss Plant Contractors will begin work at 7:00 AM Sunday and are expected to be finished in about five hours. All water reservoirs will be completely filled during the night preceding the work, allowing normal water operation for approximately eight to twelve hours after the work begins. We ask that high water use activities such as lawn watering be conducted the day before, to reduce the overall water use.

The City will contact residential customers near the T. L. Amiss Plant that will experience a loss of water service during this temporary work operation. The City will also contact all critical customers such as hospitals, dialysis centers, large industries, etc. The Shreveport Fire Department will be notified throughout the day of the ongoing status of the project.

Due to this construction activity, residents may experience a slight decrease in water pressure, particularly in areas north of downtown Shreveport. If your water pressure drops significantly, please contact the City’s service center at 318.673.7600.
