Recognizing a need to promote healing, unity and an understanding of the broader context of the War Between the States, Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover and Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker have jointly signed a proclamation that recognizes the month of April as Civil War History Month. | Previous proclamations recognized April as Confederate History Month. However, this year Mayors Glover and Walker call upon citizens to study Shreveport and Bossier’s many historic sites and persons of historical significance to the war, the historical events which compelled the war and from that understanding, continue to learn to live together and seek to avoid further conflicts. | A fervent student of history, Glover says “those taking a broader look will learn that Shreveport was home to heroes of the War including Union Army Captain C.C. Antoine, for whom a local park is named and Confederate Captain John David Herndon, for whom a local middle school is named.” | Click <Here> To See Proclamation |
