This month Multi-Media Mogul Oprah Winfrey will present a birthday gift to her beloved friend Dr Maya Angelou, that was made in Shreveport! | The $800 dollar celebrity purchase was made with the assistance of Mrs. Elizabeth Glover, mother of Mayor Cedric B. Glover, who is one of the founding members of the MLK Intergenerational Quilters group. | The ladies meet every Tuesday and Thursday at Shreveport’s Martin Luther King Jr. Neighborhood Association Center to share their love of the rich, generational and cultural tradition of African-American Art. |
| “Winfrey’s purchase is the beautiful and rare, red checked Pine Cone patterned quilt, created by Mrs. Linda Salone,” says Mrs. Glover. “We hope Dr Angelou enjoys having it as much as we enjoyed quilting it.” | You can see the beautiful color patterns and intricate work of The MLK Intergenerational Quilters, April 4 through May 3 at Art Space, 710 Texas Street. | Saturday April 12, 2008 from 10:00AM to 12PM, the MLK Quilters will host a workshop that’s open to the public. Those interested in learning how to quilt will get hands-on instruction on the basics and creativity, in the art of quilting. | For more information call: Wilbert Williams @ 208-1019. |
