Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover announces that two Shreveport schools will receive awards of $1,000 each from the bond team associated with the recent sale of more than $26 million in bonds for City water system improvements.

Alexander Learning Center and Linear Middle School will receive their awards on Thursday December 20, 2007 @ 11:30 am at the Sky Box at Shreveport’s Independence Stadium.

The awards come in part from funds which would otherwise have been used for the dinner which is traditionally held to celebrate the successful completion of the bond sale. The City’s bond attorneys and bond underwriters pay for these meals.

When Mayor Glover was asked to attend the closing dinner on December 18, he asked the bond team (underwriter Charlie Sides of Stephens, Inc. and lead bond attorneys Bill Boles Jr. and Ron Weems) to provide the funds for the two schools instead. “During this Christmas season, when all of us think about ways to make a difference in our communities”, says Mayor Glover, “these awards are an excellent way for us to make that difference, in the lives and educational opportunities of our children.”

Linear Middle School principal Dennis Redden and Alexander Learning Center principal Pam Barker will accept the award checks prior to Mayor Glover’s Ministerial Luncheon.
