As mayor of the largest metropolitan city north of Alexandria, Louisiana, Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover issues a call to the “major candidates” in the 2007 race for Louisiana Governor, to come to Shreveport and debate the issues of importance to citizens of North Louisiana. | “The October 20th primary is just more than 30 days away and two of the major candidates for governor are saying they will only participate in debates in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, cities South of Highway 190”, says Glover. “We are saying to them today, that is unacceptable”. | “It should greatly concern residents of North Louisiana, that they have been erased from the list of Important Things To Do, by candidates who if elected governor would play an important role in the future of their cities and the entire state”. | Tuesday September 11 at 2:30 pm in the City Council Chambers, members of the Shreveport City Council will stand with Mayor Glover to jointly issue this call. | We believe the citizens of Shreveport and North Louisiana deserve to question and hear from those polling as “major candidates”, how they stand on issues like taxes, education, health care, jobs, Katrina recovery and I-49 North. | Following the Press Conference, during Tuesday’s City Council meeting members will pass a resolution, strongly encouraging the front-runners in the Louisiana governor’s race to make themselves available to a public debate in North Louisiana before October 20th. | PRESS CONFERENCE | TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 11 | 2:30PM | SHREVEPORT CITY COUNCIL CHAMBER |
