With the support of nearly 30 business owners, Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover joins the Shreveport Police Department to launch the City’s new S.I.G.N. initiative, a crime fighting effort to deter unwanted weekend and late night loitering at businesses by teenagers and young adults. | Stop Intrusions and Gatherings Now, is an aggressive community and law enforcement partnership. Business owners like Super One, Mc Donald’s and Otto’s at Greenwood and Jewella have each signed an SPD Trespass Affidavit for their locations throughout the City and have posted large and very visible NO TRESPASSING signs on their premises. | The signs warn that in accordance with the City’s criminal trespass ordinance Sec. 50-86, persons who are not patrons of the business should leave immediately. If the individuals don’t leave, the business owners are asking that they be arrested and removed from the property. |
| “Together we can improve the business community of Shreveport”, says Community Orienting Police Bureau Captain Wayne Smith. “For the first time business owners are stepping up to the plate asking what can we do, to help police”. | Mayor Glover has called a news conference Tuesday June 26 at 1:00 PM at Greenwood & Jewella to launch SPD’s new S.I.G.N. initiative. Glover will join business owners, some corporate owners, along with members of the media at the Super One Grocery Store parking lot (north-east corner). | “I selected Greenwood & Jewella because it has become one of the City’s most visible hot spots for loitering, trespassing, cruising and crime. Now with this aggressive stand by business owners, our law enforcement officers can truly make a difference in their crime fighting efforts at Greenwood & Jewella and across the City”. |
