As part of Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover’s continuing public process to name the City’s new police chief, Mayor Glover extended to each member of the City Council an opportunity to meet one-on-one with Interim Chief Henry Whitehorn. | Of Shreveport’s seven council members, six accepted the Mayor’s offer choosing today and beginning at 10:00 AM each council member sat down in a face-to-face session with the man who is Mayor Glover’s choice to become the City’s new police chief. There were no time restraints, most members meeting with Whitehorn well over an hour. District F Councilman Joe Shyne relinquished his time, saying he is aware of Whitehorn’s outstanding law enforcement and leadership abilities and supports Mayor Glover’s recommendation. District E Councilman Ron Webb was the last to meet with Whitehorn Monday, his session ending after 7:00 PM. | Glover’s recommendation of Whitehorn on June 12th gives council members two weeks to meet and get to know Whitehorn’s plans and team building initiatives to fight neighborhood crime and boost Shreveport’s Police Department. The council will vote on Whitehorn’s confirmation Tuesday June 26th. | “Our citizens, neighborhood leaders and SPD administrators have met Chief Whitehorn”, says Glover. “Now I want the members of the council to get to know him so they can make an informed vote on the 26th and begin, what I see as a very important, vital and close working relationship with Whitehorn.” | Whitehorn also met Monday with Mayor Glover’s executive staff and City department heads. | Biographical information on Interim Chief Whitehorn can be found on the City of Shreveport’s website: www.ci.shreveport.la.us |
