In a first of its kind partnership, Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover and Bossier Mayor Lorenz “Lo” Walker, are joining forces with the Salvation Army, Louisiana State Police Troop G, Nike and Cintas to boost this year’s annual “Hot Pursuit” 5-K Run and make it the biggest ever! | The call is for 1,000 runners to gather at the Louisiana Boardwalk at 8AM, Saturday June 9th. “We’re excited that possibly this year the route will take runners across the Texas Street Bridge, something we haven’t been able to do before. We’re excited,” says Doug Pierrelee of Troop G. | While the “Hot Pursuit” 5-K Run generates funds to buy NEW school uniforms for thousands of children in our area, Mayor Glover wants to “kick it up a notch” and today will ask all area parents and students .. on the last day of school .. to bring ALL good condition USED school uniforms that their children no longer have use for, to the Salvation Army administrative offices at 200 East Stoner Avenue. | “I want to engage the entire community in an effort that will give thousands of children in need, the opportunity to start the school year, ready to learn,” says Mayor Glover. | “From Friday May 18 until June 9th the day of the 5-K Run, we will accept donations of used school uniforms, so we can help even more students at the start of school,” says Albert Dyer of the Salvation Army. “I want to thank Mayors Glover and Walker for their commitment to the children of this community and their support of our efforts”. |
