“We have an excellent pool of well trained and highly experienced applicants; any one of whom would serve the City well. The process we’ve outlined over the next couple of weeks will determine which one is best suited and best prepared to lead our department”, says Mayor Glover.

In a first of its kind effort to engage the community and give citizens a role in this process, Mayor Glover is inviting the 18 candidates to attend two public receptions.

Thursday May 10th from 6 to 8 PM at the Joseph B. Martin Life Center Fellowship Hall, at Lake Bethlehem Baptist Church, 2842 Martin Luther King Jr Drive, Mayor Glover will host a reception where citizens can “shake the hands and hear the plans” of those who passed the state’s civil service test and are now qualified candidates for the position of police chief.

A second “Meet the Candidates” reception will be held Tuesday May 15th from 6 to 8 PM in the Banquet Hall at Summer Grove Baptist Church, 8924 Jewella Avenue.

After meeting the candidates’ citizens can send their thoughts, ideas and suggestions to Mayor Glover by logging onto the City’s website at www.ci.shreveport.la.us. “This is a critical administrative appointment and I want to hear from the citizens of Shreveport, the qualities and the kind of person they want as our next police chief”.

Beginning Wednesday May 16th Mayor Glover will begin personal interviews with each of the 18 candidates, with a goal of naming Shreveport’s new Police Chief by the end of the month.
