Wednesday May 2, 2007 Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover will announce the largest Summer Youth Employment Program ever funded, solely by the City of Shreveport. Funded from city sales taxes, Mayor Glover’s 2007 Summer Jobs Program will hire up to 250 young people, more than twice the number hired last year. | Summer jobs will be open to young people between the ages of 16 and 21. They will primarily be placed in jobs with City agencies and non-profit organizations and will be administered by the City’s Department of Community Development. | “Summer jobs provide both meaningful work experience for our young people and a source of income for themselves and their families”, says Mayor Glover. | Young people can apply for jobs May 3-11 at all SPAR recreational centers within the City. | Applicants will be selected for interviews and given job assignments May 16-25, with their first day of work set for June 4, 2007. | Applicants must provide copies of their birth certificate, their Social Security card, a photo ID (such as a driver’s license) and a utility bill from their primary residence (to show proof of their residence within the City). | They will be allowed to work 25 hours per week for 8 weeks, ending on July 27, 2007. They will be paid $7.00 per hour. | Mayor Glover’s 2007 Summer Jobs Program is open to all eligible local residents. A number of slots are reserved, for young people whose families are receiving public assistance. Only one person per household may be selected. | For more information on summer jobs or to offer to employ one of these young people in your business, contact Community Development’s Assistant Director Herman Vital at 673 – 7500. | # # # | Press Conference | 10:30 AM | Wednesday May 2, 2007 | Mayor’s Large Conference Room | Second Floor | Government Plaza |
