To demonstrate his concern and willingness to meet the needs of residents in District A, Shreveport City Councilman Calvin Ben Lester Jr will spend Thursday April 26^th doing the job of those who work in the city’s code enforcement department. “I want to spend time with a code enforcement agent and tackle some of the adjudicated lots in my district in Allendale, that are among those that are chronic problems for residents. I want to physically cut some of those lots, using city equipment, not city workers”, says Lester.

Councilman Lester’s day will begin at 9:00 AM in the 1900 block of Abbie street … with a lawnmower.

Reminiscent of when he represented District A as a councilman and spent the day with crews on a city garbage truck, Mayor Cedric Glover says Lester’s grass-cutting will connect him more with residents. They will see that he does more than “talk the talk”. More importantly, it will give him a real-life personal look at the situation from both sides.

Councilman Lester’s Code Enforcement demonstration takes place just days before the city’s first Property Standards Summit, Monday April 30^th at 12:00 Noon at the Shreveport Convention Center.

In a session that could last the entire day, city administrators will join council persons, department heads and others, to begin a process to re-structure, re-shape and re-define property standards, codes and enforcement policies.

The summit is not open for public dialogue, but the public can attend and watch the process begin.
