The City of Shreveport proudly announces the Grand Opening Friday April 13, 2007 at 10:30 am of the new and improved Chris Hays Recreation Center, 4300 Illinois Street in west Shreveport. | Named after Shreveport Police Officer Chris Hays for his humanitarian influence in the Mooretown community, a massive $300,000 renovation project has almost doubled the size of the neighborhood center. | The “Bigger, Better” 1,440 square foot addition, offers children, adults, seniors and families a new club/art room, a 6-station computer lab, new office and storage space and will make new recreational and educational opportunities available, right in their own community. | The existing portion of the recreation center will also be renovated with a new heating and cooling system, roofing, flooring, ceiling, lighting and rest rooms. | “Chris would be proud to see the growth, expansion and support that’s been given to the center. It’s what he would have wanted for the community, especially the children”, says Center Manager Preston Edwards. | A respected member of the Shreveport Police Department’s Special Response Team, Officer Hays died February 5, 1995. He was working an off-duty job when a felony call came across his radio. As he was running to the call, a blood clot caused his death. | ### | Chris Hays Recreation Center | Grand Opening | Friday April 13 – 10:30 am | 4300 Illinois Street | Shreveport, LA |
