Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover announces a new concept in auctioning off surplus police patrol units. Saturday April 14, 2007 at 10:00 am at the Lawler Auction Facility, on 7781 Highway 1 North, about 50 retired Shreveport Police Department surplus police vehicles will be sold to the highest bidder. But this auction will be a first of its kind because the | the vehicles will still have their lights, sirens, cameras and markings. “This will give other law enforcement agencies an opportunity to bid on the police cars and put them back to work, without spending thousands of dollars to make them street ready” says Mayor Glover. | SPD also expects to save the money it spends on removing the police equipment, before the vehicles are sent to auction. | “The cost to remove the equipment is about $300 per vehicle which would come out of the Shreveport Police Department’s operating budget” says Fleet Services Director Dwayne Majors. | The general public is encouraged to bid on the vehicles as usual, however if the winning bidder is not in law enforcement and is not a licensed dealer engaged in the reselling of used police vehicles, the bidder must pay the City the $300 fee to have the police equipment removed, before the vehicle can be picked up by its new owner. | In addition to police vehicles, the City of Shreveport will also sell retired dump trucks, pickup trucks, vans, tractors and other equipment that has been declared surplus or retired by the City. The auction will be held in conjunction with an open consignment vehicle auction. Although on-line absentee bidding has already started at www.lawlerauction.com the live auction will be held Saturday at 10:00 am. Registration begins at 8:00 am. Viewing of the items can be done on-line by clicking on the auctioneer’s website, www.lawlerauction.com where potential bidders can view photos, print lists, catalogs and can place absentee bids on-line. | Bidders are expected to pay for their vehicle purchases on the day of the auction, in the form of cash, certified funds, or check, if accompanied by a bank letter of guarantee. Bidders must also pay the $300 police equipment removal fee on the day of the auction as well, if they purchase marked patrol units. | For more information, you are encouraged to contact the auctioneer, Danny Lawler at 929 – 7003, ext. 101. |
