April 5, 2007 - “Roll-Out” of 12 patrol cars

Today Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover will join interim Police Chief Mike VanSant in a “Roll-Out” of 12 patrol cars.

Some of the vehicles are new; some have been overhauled and are road ready to become the take home cars of 12 Shreveport Police Department patrol officers.

“My campaign for mayor was guided and driven by 12 initial directives. The first was to secure funding to ensure that every patrol officer, living within the city limits of Shreveport, get a take home vehicle” says Mayor Glover. “Today’s “Roll-Our” of 12 cars is the first of 80 take home cars that will serve as a visible deterrent to crime in all areas of our city, especially in the neighborhoods and communities where the patrol officers live”.

Chief VanSant says the take home cars will be assigned to patrol officers in groups of

3 to 5 a week until Mayor Glover’s directive is complete.

Following Thursday morning’s “Roll Out” -- at 1pm and 3pm SPD shift change, Mayor Glover will meet with officers at roll call. “I want the men and women who are the city’s first line of defense, our Crime Fighters, to know they are appreciated for all that they do,

to keep our citizens and our city safe” says Glover.

Mayor Glover will treat officers to coffee, fruit, water and Chief VanSant’s “Power Rings”(p.c. for doughnuts) to take with them as they begin their shifts.

“It’s very important as this city moves forward that I personally meet each SPD patrol officer and talk with them one-on-one about their concerns, says Mayor Glover. I want them to know that this administration supports the SPD and is joining its officers to develop relationships and partnerships throughout this city”. In the coming weeks Mayor Glover will meet with SPD officers on other shifts.
