Today Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover released a statement pertaining to the City’s policy of immobilizing vehicles with outstanding parking citations, in light of yesterday’s discussion of the matter during the City Council meeting. | Along with his statement, he also released a copy of the letter he sent to the Downtown Development Authority board chairman on September 28, 2009. | “Following Tuesday’s City Council meeting it is important that I reiterate my unwavering position, and that of my administration, on the issue of booting,” said Mayor Glover. Let me be clear, as I believe I have been previously on this issue: the policies and procedures adopted and utilized under the administration of the parking program are to be uniformly applied to everyone in a consistent manner. In other words, any citizen that has three or more unpaid parking tickets will be subject to having their vehicle booted. Booting is a last resort in this process that includes notification by certified mail, an opportunity for appeal, and the opportunity to establish a payment plan. Since August 24, 2009 approximately 60 vehicles have been booted and all but one owner of these vehicles have paid the amount in full. The consistent application of this program, regardless of any other factor, is necessary to maintain the public’s trust in local government that all laws and policies are fairly applied.” | Get copy of letter sent to Downtown Development Authority |
