October 9, 2009 - MAYOR’S PROPOSED 2010 CITY BUDGET ONLINE

Continuing to keep citizens involved, included and knowledgeable of the City’s annual budget process the 2010 City Operating Budget is now available for public viewing on the City’s website www.shreveportla.gov.

Citizens can view Mayor Glover’s 2010 Budget Letter, a condensed Budget Summary or read through each page of the 520 page document.

“After an extremely challenging budget year, I am pleased to submit a collaborative, well thought out lean budget that eases the burden of an increase in health care costs for our employees, does not include layoffs, provides utilities and maintenance for five City-owned swimming pools to be operated by third parties and doubles the City’s operating reserve,” says Mayor Glover. “Our citizens will continue to receive most of the services they expect from City government. Although there may be some delay in response to repairs and services, we will strive to utilize taxpayer resources in the most efficient manner possible.”

Mayor Glover, the City Council and City Department Heads will begin Budget Review Sessions beginning Monday, October 12, 2009 immediately after council work session.

Subsequent budget review sessions will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Mayor’s Large Conference Room on the second floor of Government Plaza. All budget review sessions are open to the public and citizens will find a schedule of the meetings also at www.shreveportla.gov .

If the process proceeds as planned council members are set to call a Special Meeting on Friday, December 11, 2009 to vote on the 2010 budget.

“I am honored to serve as Shreveport’s Mayor during these challenging times and appreciate the opportunity to work together with the City Council as we seek to provide the best possible public services in these difficult economic times. We will continue to move this City forward.”
