Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover and members of the Shreveport City Council announce the return of the City’s program that allows residents to buy adjacent property for one dollar. | “Applications will be available beginning Monday, August 17, 2009,” says Property Management Administrator Malcolm Stadtlander. “If for one year, a resident has cut the grass and maintained a lot that is adjacent to their property, they can apply to purchase that lot for one dollar.” | Launched in 2007 as a component of Mayor Glover’s T.B.O.N.E. initiative the City’s $1 Program ignited a response that was overwhelming. One hundred twenty-five lots were sold and over two hundred residents were left waiting even after the $1 Program closed. | Unfortunately one of those left waiting was Mrs. Verna Jones. But Monday she will be the first person to get the paperwork started to acquire a vacant lot that is adjacent to her property. It’s been the site of a beautiful garden she’s maintained for more than one year. | “I want Mrs. Jones to be the first person to sign on the dotted line,” says Mayor Glover. “I’ve invited her to join City leaders along with the Property Management Team that will be handling the City’s $1 Program to a News Conference Monday, August 17, 2009 at 11 a.m. on the second floor of Government Plaza where we will officially kick-off the $1 Program.” | Here are the 2009 City of Shreveport $1 Program guidelines: | • A property owner that maintains a vacant adjudicated lot for at least one year, may be eligible to acquire the City’s tax interest in that lot for $1. | • The lot must be adjudicated to the City of Shreveport for at least 3 years. | • The lot must be immediately adjacent to the applicant’s property. | • In order to participate in this program, the applicant shall have no outstanding taxes, fees, or other charges due to the City of Shreveport and shall not own any adjudicated property. | • The applicant must produce 3 affidavits attesting to the maintenance of the adjudicated vacant lot. One affidavit must come from the adjacent property owner (applicant), and the other 2 affidavits must come from property owners or lessees of property in the immediate vicinity, as defined by law, of the adjudicated vacant lot. | • Applications and affidavit forms will be available on Mondays and Thursdays (only) beginning Monday, August 17, 2009 and may be obtained from: | City of Shreveport | Property Management Section |
505 Travis Street, Suite 300
| Shreveport, La. 71101
|
| • Applicants are asked to call (318) 673.6016 and make an appointment to visit with a member of the City’s Property Management Team in order to meet one-on-one and fully explain the details of the $1 Program.
