August 11, 2009 - CITY AND COMMUNITY LEADERS TO BREAK GROUND ON NEW HOUSING DEVELOPMENT

On Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at 1800 Valencia Drive, one of Shreveport’s historic communities will welcome its first gated housing development – Concordia Place.

Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover, members of the Shreveport City Council and Departments of Community Development and Operational Services will join local and state housing and business representatives, lending institutions, civic leaders and life-long residents of the Stoner Hill Community, to officially break ground on the new residential development.

“I am extremely pleased and excited to see this breath of new life come to the City’s Stoner Hill Community,” says Mayor Glover. “I believe Concordia Place, like Shepherd Place in the MLK Community, will enhance the beautiful and well cared for existing homes as well as ignite a sense of pride and encouragement in areas that are now showing signs of blight and neglect.”

The architect for the $2.7 million development is Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. George C. Kleinpeter Jr. CEO/President. The prime contractor is City of Shreveport’s Fair Share client Douglas Construction Company, Melvin Douglas President/CEO. Construction is already underway. The first phase which consists of twelve homes is scheduled for completion by December 31, 2009.

Concordia Place will offer a unique mixture of twenty-five upscale, energy efficient, affordable homes surrounded by the peace and quiet of trees and greenery. Efforts are to incorporate as many “green” materials that are possible to provide a safe, low-maintenance, efficient design, both in the home and in green space.

“What an awesome opportunity for families in our City that now have a real chance at becoming homeowners and can look forward to enjoying a quality of life they could only dream of,” says Bonnie Moore, Director of Community Development. “We hope all goes as planned and we look forward to celebrating New Year’s with twelve new homeowners in Concordia Place.”
