May 14, 2009 - SIGNING CEREMONY MAKES SHREVEPORT FILM INCENTIVES LAW

Never backing down from his fervent and unwavering belief in the success and sustainability of Northwest Louisiana’s Film Industry, Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover today joined members of the City Council, Caddo Parish Commission and members of the local film industry to proudly sign into law Shreveport’s first Film Incentive Resolution.

“Signing this resolution will expedite the message that we as a City are serious about holding on to and growing the film industry here,” says Mayor Glover.

Proposed by District A Councilman Calvin B. Lester, the City’s first of its kind Film Incentives would offer up to $150,000 in rebates for films, television shows, commercials and music videos with budgets of at least $300,000.

Unanimously supporting the resolution, City Council members voted 7-0 Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in favor of the incentives, making it more attractive for companies to film productions in Shreveport.

While Lester hopes the Caddo Commission will pass similar incentives, Mayor Glover hopes Shreveport’s “action” and momentum will serve as a template for other cities and facilitate and accelerate similar supportive film incentives by state legislators.

“We are anxious for our leaders in Baton Rouge to take positive and progressive steps to keep Louisiana as a prime film making location,” says Glover.

Shreveport is the fourth best city in the United States for independent filmmakers to work, live and shoot movies. -MovieMaker Magazine, February 2009
