April 3, 2009 - MAYOR GLOVER, COUNCILMAN WEBB CUT RIBBON ON NEWLY RENOVATED TENNIS COURTS

Friday, April 3, 2009 at 11:00 am Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover and District E Councilman Ron Webb will cut the ribbon to four newly renovated tennis courts at the Southern Hills Tennis Center at 1002 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop.

At a cost of $157,300 four asphalt tennis courts were recently overlaid with new post-tension concrete. Quality Court Industries of Baton Rouge performed the work that now gives residents the use of ten lighted hard courts at the complex. The tennis courts were initially built over 20 years ago. In 2004, the city began the first phase of renovations with two courts receiving the same post-tension concrete overlay.

“I’m extremely excited,” says Councilman Webb. “The refurbishing of the court surface will allow league play, USTA Adult Tournaments, and other events that will have a positive impact on the economic development of the area.”

“I am extremely pleased to stand with Councilman Webb and the residents of District E today,” says Mayor Glover. “This is an investment in our City that breathes new life and offers great recreational opportunities for children, families, residents and visitors. I applaud the entire council for having the vision to invest in this project.”

Shreveport’s Southern Hills Tennis Center has been selected by the United States Tennis Association as an Area Training Center for top ranked Louisiana Juniors for North Louisiana. More than 15,000 use the center annually.
