Partnering with Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana (PCAL) Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover has called a Community Meeting for Thursday April 2, 2009 from 6 – 8 PM at Shreveport’s Riverview Hall. | All citizens, parents, educators, child welfare advocates, family support groups and youth assistance organizations are invited to join Mayor Glover and City leaders in an open and public dialogue to involve the community in discussing and defining clear and effective ways to support and protect children. | In 2006 nationwide, an estimated 3.6 million children were accepted by state and local Child Protective Services as alleged victims of child maltreatment for investigation or assessment and 23,911 allegations were made in Louisiana in 2007. | “This Community Meeting is something we’ve needed for a long time,” says Sharon Reed, Regional Director of Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana. “What Mayor Glover is doing is ground breaking … bringing the community together with the various organizations and agencies to educate us about the agencies and services that are available to keep our children safe.
