Contractor
Picking a Contractor
The home or business owner has discretion to the choice of contractor they want to use to complete their project.

Guidelines
Things to look for when choosing a contractor:
  • Accessibility: Does the contractor maintain a permanent office, phone number, or answering service? You will want to be able to reach the contractor quickly and easily, especially at critical times.
  • Insurance: To protect you from claims arising from property damage or job site injuries. Ask for a copy of the insurance certificates that include worker’s compensation, automobile insurance and general liability for at least $1,000,000. (Call insurance company to verify that the policy is active)
  • Check with the Better Business Bureau and State Attorney’s office. A contractor with several unresolved complaints may not be a wise choice.
  • Do not rely on price alone. While it may be tempting to choose the cheapest bid, you should know why it is significantly less than the competition’s price:
    • Are they properly insured?
    • Are they providing the same quality of materials as their competitor?
