Auxiliary Officer Program
The Shreveport Police Department's Auxiliary Police Officers program is made up of volunteer citizens who want to give something back to the city in which they work and live. Section 121 of the Shreveport city ordinance authorizes the Chief of Police to appoint eligible persons as auxiliary police officers in such numbers as deemed necessary in the best interest of the city.

History & Overview
Auxiliary officers are not sworn peace officers and as such they are not armed and they have no arrest powers. The auxiliary has a current staffing of 20 officers and is a part of the Community Oriented Policing program.

Since it's inception in 1997, Shreveport Auxiliary Police Officers have contributed over 25,000 hours of service. The auxiliary police group has been awarded the outstanding unit citation twice by the Chief of Police and numerous commendations have been awarded to individual officers.
