Nominations Sought for HERA Awards
Seeking Nominations
The Shreveport Mayor’s Women’s Commission is seeking nominations for the HERA Award. Three HERA awards will be presented to honor unsung heroes who have made a positive difference in Shreveport in the areas of advocacy, education, and quality of life. The awards recognize the recipients' untiring and selfless volunteer efforts to be helpful, effective, and responsible advocates for Shreveport women and youth.

Award Criteria
Criteria for the awards include:
  • Has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to volunteerism
  • Is a positive influence in meeting community needs or enhancing the quality of life in Shreveport
  • Has demonstrated acts of generosity and kindness
  • Embraces community service as an outgoing commitment
  • Contributions should have been made within the past 12 months, as well as ongoing efforts which demonstrate a depth of commitment
  • Promotes and/or advances public understanding about important community issues / concerns
  • Demonstrates high standards of character and moral standing
  • Fosters coordination and cooperation among diverse audiences and stakeholders in the community and promotes unity

Deadline & Ceremony
The deadline for submitting a nomination is Friday, September 27, 2013. A copy of the nomination form may be obtained online or by email. Please type HERA Awards in the subject line.

The HERA Awards will be presented Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at the Riverview Hall & Theater, 600 Clyde Fant Parkway. This will be the sixth annual presentation of the awards by Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover and the Shreveport Mayor's Women's Commission.
