2014 Summer Camp Overview

Date:            June 6, 2014
Event:          Girls Are Butterflies Too!  Camp
Time:            10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Location:     Bill Cockrell Recreation Center, 4109 Pines Rd.
Girls Are Butterflies Too will empower females ages 12-16 with information to build self esteem while developing leadership and relationship skills.

Date:            June 7, 2014
Event:          Fishing Camp
Time:            8:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Location:     Cross Lake Patrol, 2900 Municipal Pier Road
The Annual Community Oriented Policing Bureau Youth Fishing Camp offers fun, hands-on educational activities that encourage boys and girls--between the ages of 6 to 13 years old -- to gain an improved positive attitude, greater appreciation for good moral values, and a better understanding of the keys that will lead to their own success.  This active outdoor program promotes nature awareness, teach them to fish or improve their current fishing skills.  Officers and Wildlife staff work together to educate the children on fish habits, water quality.

Event:          Law and Youth Academy
Time:            9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Location:     Shreveport Police Training Academy, 6440 Greenwood Rd.
This four day camp introduces students between the ages of 12 to 16 the components within the Criminal Justice System and how they work together to solve crimes.  Experts in Law Enforcement will instruct students regarding their respective fields.  The students participate in a scenario that will incorporate them into roles portrayed by those in the Criminal Justice System.

Date:            July 9-10, 2014
Event:          Boy's Youth Enrichment Camp
Time:            9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Location:     Police Assembly Room, 1234 Texas Street
The Boy's Youth Enrichment camp is designed to be a proactive avenue in combating criminal juvenile activity.  Male participants ages of 12 to 16 will spend time engaged in structured therapeutic activities stressing discipline, physical training, and work.  A military-style environment is created to offer an alternative route to prevent youths from being detained for longer terms of confinement.  Community Liaison Officers will serve as camp instructors during the camp.

Date:            July 22-24, 2014
Event:          Basketball Camp - Estimated 125 Participants
Time:            8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Location:     Southern Hills Recreation Center, 1002 Bert Kouns
The Annual Basketball Youth Camp is designed to encourage character development in the youths of Shreveport and the surrounding areas who are between the ages of 12 and 16 years old.  The instructional time spent with the youths will allow them to develop athletically as well as enhance their ability to embrace an appreciation of good sportsmanship.  The opportunity for officers to interact with children in a non-law enforcement setting promotes a healthy relationship for a life time.
