Chief Randy Beason serves as the commander of Shift ‘A’ operations and personnel. He is a 31 year veteran of the Department. As Assistant Chief, Beason is responsible for the daily operations of the 165 personnel of ‘A’ shift and personally commands all major incidents that occur on his watch.

Chief Beason is a Shreveport native, and a graduate of Woodlawn High School's class of '76. After graduation, he sought employment in the Fire Service and was hired by the Shreveport Fire Department January 15th, 1978. Upon completion of the Shreveport Regional Fire Academy, he was assigned to Fire Station 14 in the Mooretown community and spent his entire firefighter career at # 14. Beason was promoted to Fire Driver on May 1, 1987, and remained at #14. Beason was promoted to Captain on December 15th, 1996, and then promoted to Battalion Chief on November 1st, 2008. Chief Beason was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief on January 1, 2010 with 31 years on "A" shift.

Chief Beason was certified as an EMT-B in 1978, and in 2008 received a Meritorious Service Award for 30 years of service as an EMT. Chief Beason earned the following certifications to improve himself and the Department: Structural Collapse, Trench Rescue, High Angle Rescue, Vehicle Extrication and USAR, which combined, qualify him as a member of the Department’s SORT team. Chief Beason has over 25 years experience as a SFD Diver. Additional training and certifications include; Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF); Nationally certified Safety Officer; Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings in Socorro, New Mexico; and NIMS and ICS 300 and 400.

Chief Beason has volunteered for Shreveport Fire Department supported projects such as Operation Santa Claus and Paint Your Heart Out. On August 27th, 2005, Chief Beason and 26 members of the Shreveport Fire Department were deployed to New Orleans to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina; Beason and Strike Team Bravo spent 5 days assisting citizens of New Orleans.

Chief Beason has graciously accepted the challenge and opportunity to serve as Assistant Fire Chief. His motto is "Know your job. Do your Job."
