Office
of Water and Sewerage
Field Operations The mission of the Field Operations Division is to operate and maintain the City's water and wastewater systems at their optimum state of efficiency and reliability as allowed by budget, manpower, and equipment allocations. The Field Operations Division of the Office of Water and Sewerage consists of the Inflow and Infiltration (I&I) Group, the Central Supply and Warehouse Group, and the 5 Maintenance Zones. There are 136 employees in the Field Operations Division. Shreveport is divided into five maintenance zones. Each zone Work Task Force is responsible for all maintenance work, including repairing water and sewer mains, replacing and repairing fire hydrants and valves, and repairing and replacing manholes and covers within their respective maintenance zone. When required for health or safety reasons, a zone may provide limited maintenance on service lines, install water meters, turn water on and off. Inflow and Infiltration is responsible for preventative maintenance on the sewer system. This includes jet washing the mains to unclog debris blockages and also performing video taping to determine where sewer main breaks and failures have occurred. The Central Supply and Warehouse Group is responsible for stocking, warehousing and issuing all materials and supplies, including dirt, sand and gravel, needed to maintain the City's water and sewer infrastructure. Additionally it maintains and issues special motorized equipment that may be needed to accomplish a needed water or sewer main repair. |
