Suspected home invasion turns deadly Shreveport Police detectives are investigating the city’s latest murder in what they are describing as a home invasion gone wrong.
At approximately 10:47 a.m. this morning, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the 100 block of W. 79th St. relative to a battery call. As officers were enroute to the call, police dispatchers received updated information that someone had been shot at that location. Upon arrival, officers discovered 18 year old Jeremy Bell suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso. Bell was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officers also found 23 year old Martin Gobert there suffering from what appeared to be blunt force trauma wounds to his head and upper body. Gobert was transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department with what have been described as non-life-threatening wounds.
Detectives have learned that a man now identified as Jerome Hughes knocked on the door of the residence there on W. 79th St. and when Gobert opened the door for him, Jeremy Bell, who was apparently hiding behind Hughes, forced his way in the home armed with an assault style rifle. Investigators believe Jeremy Bell began to beat Martin Gobert with the rifle as part of an attempt to rob him. During the course of this altercation, Martin Gobert was able to gain control of the firearm and shot Jeremy Bell. Jerome Hughes fled the scene of the crime in what has been described a s a 1980’s model Chevrolet Caprice, sky blue in color with a dark blue rag top.
Detectives have recovered evidence from the crime scene including the rifle believed to have been used in the shooting and have now obtained a warrant for the arrest of 23 year old Jerome Hughes of the 200 block of E. Gregg in Shreveport charging him with one count of home invasion. The bond is set at $250,000.
Anyone with any information regarding Jerome Hughes or his whereabouts is urged to call Shreveport Police Detective Shawn Hinderberger at 318-673-6955 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373. -spd- View all SPD press releases at www.shreveportla.gov |
