Patrol officer recovers stolen gun, arrests suspect A local man who was in possession of a stolen gun has been jailed after being stopped by a patrol officer.
At approximately 4:42 p.m. on December 22, 2009, Shreveport Police Officer Joel Davidson conducted a traffic stop in the 6300 block of Tulsa Ave. after he observed 21 year old Zamarvis Banks driving a vehicle without wearing a seatbelt. As Officer Davidson approached the vehicle, he observed a handgun in plain view just inches from Banks’ hand. Upon further investigation, Officer Davidson was able to determine that the gun had been reported stolen. The firearm, a Raven Arms .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun, had been reported stolen out of Houston, Texas back in July of 1989, over twenty years ago.
Officer Davidson seized the firearm and arrested Banks, of the 6300 block of Tulsa Ave. in Shreveport, and booked him into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of illegal possession of a stolen firearm. Officers will be working to return the gun to its rightful owner. -spd- View all SPD press releases at www.shreveportla.gov |
