FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shreveport Police to add two new “officers” to force

The Shreveport Police Department will be bulking up downtown patrols with the addition of two horses to the force.

The new recruits, named Thor and Hercules, are black Percheron horses. Percherons are known for their size and Thor and Hercules are no exceptions, with both of them standing about six feet at the shoulders and weighing over 1400 pounds each. The Downtown Unit Support Group bought the horses from Craig Perry, a horse breeder based in Ohio, while he was in town for the Louisiana State Fair. Officers will begin utilizing the horses as soon as the specially ordered tack to fit them is delivered.

The Shreveport Police Department would like to invite our local media to meet and greet Thor and Hercules (and their human partners) tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. at the horse barn located in the 100 block of McNeil St. Officers with the Downtown Unit will be available for interviews.
