K-9 apprehends suspect in business break-in

A Texas man had to be treated for a dog bite after being arrested for breaking into a Shreveport business.

At approximately 2:18 a.m. on December 19, 2009, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to an alarm from a business in the 6500 block of Union Ave. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a chain securing a gate on the property had been cut and just moments later, Sgt. Stephen Plunkett observed a male suspect running from the back of the business. Officers gave chase and K-9 handler Cpl. Dan Sawyer and his four legged partner Renzo were able to take the suspect into custody.

The suspect, identified as 20 year old Alex Lemus of Dallas, Texas, was transported to LSUHSC to be treated for a dog bite and was later booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of unauthorized entry of a place of business.

Detectives will be following up on this arrest to determine if this suspect is responsible for other similar crimes. Anyone with any information regarding this suspect or any other business burglaries is urged to call Shreveport Police detectives at 318-673-6985 or Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
