Shreveport Police investigate shooting of three year old Shreveport Police are investigating the shooting of a three year old little girl that occurred this afternoon in north Shreveport.
At approximately 1:27 p.m. this afternoon, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the 4300 block of N. Market relative to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a three year old female child suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The juvenile was transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department with what has been described as life threatening wound.
Detectives immediately began their investigation and learned that the shooting happened inside the back bedroom of an apartment there in the 4300 block of N. Market. Investigators and crime scene investigators secured the apartment and processed the crime scene for evidence. Based on their preliminary findings, investigators believe that the child, who was inside the apartment with her mother and father, accidentally shot herself with a semi-automatic handgun. Detectives have seized the handgun they believe was used in the shooting. Investigators have interviewed both parents and no charges have been filed at this time. It is important to add that this is an ongoing investigation and authorities are still processing evidence and conducting interviews.
Anyone having any information concerning this case is urged to call Shreveport Police detectives at 318-673-6955 or Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373. -spd- View all SPD press releases at www.shreveportla.gov |
