Police round up four suspected burglars

Shreveport Police patrol officers rounded up four suspected car burglars this weekend in two separate cases.

At approximately 2:51 a.m. on December 6, 2009, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the 6100 block of Dillingham Ave. in Shreveport’s South Highlands neighborhood relative to a vehicle burglary in progress. The victim called police after her car alarm went off and she observed a male suspect in her vehicle. The suspect fled the scene of the crime in a pick-up truck but was spotted moments later on Creswell Ave. by Cpl. Mike Jones who subsequently stopped the truck and took the suspect, identified as 29 year old Bryant Thomas of the 200 block of E. 72nd St. in Shreveport, into custody. Cpl. Jones and Cpl. Joe Lewis seized burglary tools and evidence linking Thomas to other vehicle break-ins from the pick-up truck. Thomas was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of simple burglary and one count of possession of burglary tools.

Less than 24 hours later, at 11:02 p.m. on December 6, 2009, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the 4500 block of Gilbert Dr. regarding a vehicle burglary in progress. The victim called police after three male suspects were seen trying to enter a vehicle in that block. Sgt. Wiley Lindsey, who was responding to the burglary call, observed the three suspects walking near the intersection of Thornhill Ave. and Pierremont Rd. and was able to take them into custody with the assistance of Officer DeAndre Belle. The two adult suspects, identified as 19 year old Christopher Moran of the 3000 block of Conmar St. in Shreveport and 22 year old Reginald Vaughn of the 400 block of E. 68th St. in Shreveport, were booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of simple burglary each. The third suspect was a sixteen year old male juvenile who was booked into the Caddo Parish Juvenile Detention Facility on one count of simple burglary.

Detectives will be investigating these suspects to determine if they are responsible for other similar crimes. Chief of Police Henry Whitehorn praised the arrests, saying, “These two cases are perfect examples of how collaboration between law enforcement and the citizens we are charged with protecting works to serve the greater good. We strive everyday to build relationships with the people in our communities and neighborhoods and these arrests are further proof that by working together, we can continue to reduce crime in our city.”
