FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Community liaison officer nabs suspected burglars

A community liaison officer with the Shreveport Police Department’s Community Oriented Policing Bureau caught two burglars in the act yesterday.

At approximately 11:40 a.m. yesterday morning, Cpl. Van Wray, a community liaison officer for the Cedar Grove and Sunset Acres neighborhoods, was on a directed patrol in the 2700 block of Sunnybrook when he observed two men behind a residence in that block. Cpl. Wray observed the suspects acting in a suspicious manner and moments later, assisted by patrol officer Cpl. Eric Swartout, he was able to detain both men. Upon further investigation, officers discovered that a window in the home where the suspects had been spotted was forced open. Detectives were dispatched to the scene and immediately began their investigation.

After interviewing the suspects, Detectives Eric Miles and Chuck Thompson have charged the two suspects, identified as 20 year old Sirkendrick Washington of the 2700 block of Sunnybrook in Shreveport and 17 year old Harold Coulter of the 6800 block of Oak Branch in Shreveport, with one count each of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling. Based on information gathered by investigators, a fifteen year old juvenile suspect was arrested this morning and charged with three counts of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling. Detectives believe Washington, Coulter, and the juvenile suspect are responsible for at least eight burglaries in that area and more charges could be forthcoming against each suspect.
