Suspected bank robber shoots Police Detective A Shreveport Police detective was shot this morning by a suspected bank robber.
At approximately 9:15 a.m. this morning, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the Capitol One Bank in the 2300 block of Greenwood Rd. relative to a bank robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned that a heavy-set white male entered the bank and began firing shots from a handgun, ordering everyone to the ground. The suspect then took a female customer hostage and forced his way to the rear of the bank where he received an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect released his hostage and fled the scene of the crime on what was described as a dark colored motorcycle.
As officers circulated the area in an attempt to locate the suspect, a detective observed a heavy-set male operating a motorcycle. As the investigator called for assistance and attempted to stop the suspect on Mansfield Rd. near Midway Ave., the suspect began discarding evidence and then dismounted the motorcycle and fired shots at the detective. The detective, who was struck at least once in the lower extremities, returned fire and struck the suspect several times. A patrol officer arrived on the scene and fired shots at the suspect as well.
The detective, who was conscious and alert, was transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department with what have been described as serious wounds. The suspect was transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department where he was later pronounced deceased. Investigators are processing the crime scenes and working at this time to identify the suspected bank robber. The names of the involved officers are not being released at this time.
