FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shreveport Police to hold specialized training

The Shreveport Police Department will hold a specialized training session tomorrow at a local school.

The Shreveport Police Department’s Special Response Team and Hostage Negotiation Team will both be part of a specialized training exercise tomorrow at St. Joseph Catholic School located in the 1200 block of Anniston Ave. The scenario based training will allow officers to hone their skills dealing with an active shooter, as well as situations involving hostage negotiation, hostage rescue, and addressing a barricaded suspect.

Chief Henry Whitehorn commented on just how important this kind of training is, saying, “The Shreveport Police Department is committed to keeping our community safe and we take these training exercises very seriously. It is an unfortunate reality of the world we live in that our officers must be prepared to effectively deal with a situation like an active shooter in a school environment and realistic training is an important part of our strategy.”

The Shreveport Police Department would like to thank the good folks at St. Joseph Catholic School for giving us access to their facility while the children are out for the holiday. Local media are invited and encouraged to attend this training to see first hand how our officers are preparing and training to serve and protect. Please call Cpl. Bill Goodin at 318-525-5066 for more specific information.
