Shreveport Police are investigating the shooting of a teenager in west Shreveport last night.
On August 5, 2009, at approximately 10:50 p.m., Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to a residence in the 3900 block of LaRue St. relative to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a sixteen year old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The juvenile was transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department. The victim was reported to be alert and talking, but the wound has been described as a serious injury.
Detectives were dispatched to the crime scene and at this juncture in their investigation believe that the victim accidentally shot himself while playing with what he thought was an unloaded handgun. Investigators stress, however, that this is an ongoing investigation and they are working at this time to conclusively determine if any criminal activity was involved in this shooting.
Anyone with any information regarding this shooting is urged to call Shreveport Police Detective Eric Farquhar at 318-673-6955 or Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373. -spd- View all SPD press releases at www.shreveportla.gov |
