Operation “Sunset” set to help make our neighborhoods safer
Shreveport Police have initiated a multi-agency operation in the heart of Shreveport to address crime and quality of life issues. Operation “Sunset” kicked off last Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. as part of Police Chief Henry Whitehorn’s ongoing plan to use additional officers to attack crime problems and quality of life issues in our communities. Shreveport Police officers, assisted by Caddo Sheriff’s deputies, Louisiana State Police troopers, Probation and Parole agents, and United States Marshall’s Task Force, have been saturating the Cedar Grove and Sunset Acres neighborhoods in response to citizen complaints and crime patterns. Officers from these agencies have all worked together towards the common goal of making our neighborhoods a safer place to live, work, and play. Law officers have been focusing on everything from curfew violations to open air drug sales to shots being fired in the area. A safety checkpoint was held last night in the 6100 block of Mansfield Rd. as part of this effort. Operation “Sunset” is just one of the initiatives that Chief Whitehorn has planned to work with other law enforcement agencies and the residents of our communities to not only impact quality of life issues, but to reduce crime numbers even more in 2009. Members of our local media are encouraged to come out this evening and ride along with an officer to get a first hand look at Operation “Sunset”. The Command Post will operational at 6:00 p.m. tonight and will be located at Wyngate Blvd. and W. 70th St. Capt. Tony LeBlanc will be the point of contact. -spd- View all SPD press releases at www.shreveportla.gov |
