FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shreveport Police officer involved in crash

A Shreveport Police officer responding to an armed person call last night has been injured in a one vehicle crash.

At approximately 9:20 p.m. last night, Officer Dadrien Updite was responding to an armed person call on Monkhouse Dr. in his department issued marked patrol unit. Officer Updite was southbound in the 2900 block of Curtis Ln. with his emergency equipment activated when another southbound vehicle stopped on the roadway in front of him. In an attempt to avoid this vehicle, Officer Updite entered the northbound lane of Curtis Ln., but there was another vehicle in that lane of travel. Officer Updite then drove the patrol unit into a ditch to avoid striking the other two vehicles. The patrol unit subsequently struck a culvert and then a pine tree before coming to rest on the passenger side of the car.

Officer Updite, who graduated the Shreveport Police Regional Training Academy in November of 2008, was transported to a local hospital with what has been described as minor injuries and has since been released. Shreveport Police crash investigators were dispatched to the scene and are investigating this crash.
